Many buildings have been constructed in timber over the years. Now Canadian Architects working for developer Hines Interests, based in Houston, have published plans to erect a 7-story office building in Minneapolis constructed entirely from timber.
According to reThink Wood, an alliance promoting wood in architecture, the building would be the tallest modern all-timber structure in the US.
Architects argue that fire-protective coatings can be applied to timber frame, engineering can make timbers as durable as concrete and computer modeling has made it easier to design wood-framed buildings that can meet threats from natural and made-made disasters.
